RE: Operating an awning

First time I put mine out I got it out ok but when I tried to put it back, I messed up and slightly bent one of the main supports. As I stood there with one of those "oh no, now what" looks my neighbor came over and asked if he could help. He helped (read "did the work") bend the support arm back and then showed me how to operate the thing. I was talking about maybe replacing the arm and he told me he had done the same thing to an older TT he had, bent it back in shape and used it for nine years before he sold the TT. It is working now and after his instruction I am working just fine. Thank goodness for Good Samaritans.

RE: What's the difference?

I agree with downtheroad, we had a add on room for our PUP and it was too much effort to put up and take down. We only used it once, then we got a screen room from Wally World on sale for about $50. Not that fancy but quick and easy to set up and take down, you could put it anywhere, etc. MY$.02worth.

RE: Gray Water tank reads 1/3 full when empty

We have a 2008 Gulfstream product. The grey water is fairly accurate when the level is low but water will back up in the tub and the indicator shows 2/3. The black tank indicator reads 1/3 or 2/3 almost all the time...although it occasionally reads empty when it's empty. IMHO tank gauges are just about worthless.

RE: Question for RV'ers

While we love the outdoors, DW has Lupus and can't be in the sun...so when she goes I tend to stay in with her more than when she stays home and I take the GC. I really don't care much what the neighbors do, I go to enjoy myself, relax, and most of the time I work pretty hard at doing nothing...sometimes inside...sometimes outside. As stated, to each his own.

RE: TT: Buy new or used?

When we were looking for a TT we could not find a good used one at a good price. They were either in great condition but almost as much as a new one or they were dogs. We ended up with a decent deal on the floorplan we like but if I could have found a unit we liked for the right price I would have bought used.

RE: feather bed for a mattress topper?

The RV queen in our TT is pretty poor and we plan to replace it eventually. For the short run we put a sleeping bag on top of the matress then sheets over. Turns out to be quite comfortable.

RE: TT ?'s-New Guy Needs Advice

We have a '02 F-250 like yours set up for towing except we have the auto tranny. Our TT is a 27'BH...almost exactly 30' tip to tail. We are scaling out about 65-6800# ready to camp, dry tanks. We don't exactly break any speed records getting to the top of hills but so far we have always gotten there. A WDH and sway bar are good things to have particularly if you have to be on high speed roads. We really like the setup, easy to pull, easy to manuever, easy to find good sites, comfortable to stay in. There are a large number of TT out there that fit your requirements. As we camp with GC we need a little more space but we could be very happy with a 25 footer if it were just one or two of us.

RE: North and South Carolina in October

The beach fishing is great, the fall leaves are beautiful, the CGs have plenty of space, the days are usually warm and pleasent and the nights are cool and crisp. You did not state what part (or parts) of the state you were interested in so it's a litte difficult to recommend CGs.

RE: Shake down Q's on our Spree

Can't help with the plumbing issues but there is a sticker on the front street side of the TT with weight information.

RE: how many of you camp with children

Come visit our campsites...we always have at least two short people and sometimes more. IMHO half the fun of camping is enjoying it with kids. Of course the other half is sipping a glass of good Scotch and smoking a good cigar all alone and watching the sun set. Good stuff either way.

RE: Advice and Prayers Please!!!

As custodial grandparents we were a little apprehensive about the GC sleeping in the TT. After a full day playing, swimming, campfire, etc. they are wiped out and go to sleep easier and sleep as well or better than when were are home.

RE: WOULD YOU?????

I would move in to the TT today if I were single. DW will probably never agree to more than about half time. Then again, if I were single.....

RE: CH 751 key

I consider the locks on storage compartments to be a safety feature that probably helps keep the door from popping open while we are on the road. The door itself and the rim around it are so flimsy I doubt it would take a ten year old with a screwdriver more than two minutes to break in. If they really want to steal the extra sewer hose and a cheap extension cord that bad I would rather leave it unlocked and hope they did less damage to the TT. Justmy$.02worth.

RE: Used Choices

IMO either will hold up very well if you take good care of them. Listening to this forum the worst enemy of any RV is water intrusion whether it be leaks from the outside or leaks in the plumbing. Check them over for problems, then buy the floorplan you like the best.

The seat in our 04 Westlake held up well. DW and I both sat on it occasionally while showering. I go about 265 and it held me. BTW we really liked our Westlake.

RE: RV site availability

We were in a fairly highly rated CG this weekend and it appeared to be about 65% full. On our row there was at least one vacant site between each camper. I did notice a lot of RVs on I-81 on the way home, most of which were headed north, probably coming from the Sprint Cup race at Bristol.

RE: Anyone else use a tarp under there awning?

We have a reversable RV 9'X12' mat. I originally thought it was a lot of money for an outdoor rug...but...it works much better than anything else we have tried. It doesn't stain or show dirt, you can hose it off, shake it and it's dry in a few minutes, it folds up easily and fits back into its bag, and it looks nice. IMHO it's well worth the money.

RE: westmoreland state park virginia

Never camped there but lived fairly close some years back. Early October can be great...late October can also be great but it can be a little cold and drizzly. The pool will be closed and you can't swim at the beaches...it would be too cold anyway. There is some historic stuff fairly close and there will be some pretty good fishing that time of the year off the charter boats. Not a bad place for a couple of days but not much exciting in the area for the long term.

RE: Slide Topper...is it worth it?

I asked the dealer about slide toppers and he recommended we not buy it. I always carry a small ladder and I clean the slide off with a cloth before we close it. Also gives me a reason to inspect the top of the slide. MY$.02.
